Nina Wang arrested, posts
bail
Hong Kong -
Asia's wealthiest woman Nina Wang was released on bail of HK$5 million
(US$641,000) after being questioned over the alleged forgery of her
late husband's will, media reports said on Thursday.
Local radio and television stations
said Wang was released on bail on Thursday after being questioned
overnight, although a Hongkong police spokesman refused to confirm the
identity of the woman involved.
'The woman in her 60s was released on
police bail surety of $5 million and is required to report back
approximately three months later,' the police spokesman said.
The investigation came after Mrs
Wang, 64, lost Hongkong's longest ever civil trial last month when the
judge ruled a will purportedly written by her late husband Teddy Wang
in 1990 was a fake.
Judge David Yam said in his ruling at
the end of the 172-day trial that the document, supposedly drawn up by
the wealthy industrialist just before his disappearance in April 1990,
was 'probably written by the defendant herself'.
Although it was initially believed
Mrs Wang had been 'invited' to assist police in their investigation,
the spokesman confirmed on Thursday that 'the woman was arrested'.
Mr Wang has not been seen since 1990
after a reported kidnap attempt and his body is believed to have been
dumped in the South China Sea by gangsters. He was declared dead in
1999.
The fake document named his wife as
the sole executor and beneficiary of his estimated $27.5 billion
fortune.
But the court ruled that Mr Wang's
father, Wang Din-shin, 90, should be the sole executor and beneficiary
of his son's estate.
