By Hj Ahmed Shaheeb

Bandar Seri Begawan - The closing ceremony of the 'La Main A La Pate Workshop' (A Hands-on Science Workshop for Educators) was held at the Katok 'A' Primary School, Brunei III recently.

Present as the guest of honor was Awg Lamat bin Haji Lakim, Assistant Director of Schools at the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.

Twenty-five primary schools teachers attended the six-day workshop that was jointly organized by the Human Resource Development Section and the Ministry of Education's Department of Schools, which was held from August 18 to 23, and was aimed at recognizing the 10 principles of LAMAP as well as experiencing the LAMAP processes through various lesson examples.

During the workshop, participants were able to improve their knowledge and understanding of science as well as the focus of enquiry while also

allowing them to experiment different approaches of enquires, by sharing their points of view in the hopes of developing a more global understanding of what is common to all enquires behind diversity.

The LAMAP programmed, which is facilitated by Estelle Blanquet from the University of Nice, France, is structured around some basic rules now known as the 10 principles.

The ten principles of LAMAP, some of which are localized for France, include children observing and experimenting on real objects or phenomenon, children arguing and reasoning, sharing ideas, building knowledge, the teacher proposing activities arranged in sequence, leaving space for children's autonomy and children filling their science notebooks with their own words.   -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
