Bandar Seri Begawan - The importance of free education provided by the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the role of parents in education were highlighted by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri PengiranAnak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Salleh Abd Rahman in her Sabda during the launching ceremony of the Domestic Science Exhibition 2008 at the ICC yesterday morning.

Her Royal Highness said, "With the blessing of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, the Government of His Majesty has provided numerous a facility as well as education needs to raise the standard of living, welfare and security of the people of the country.

"His Majesty's government has provided learning facilities and free education that should be fully utilised. In my opinion, the opportunities offered in academic education not only represent the path towards excellence for youths but also play a main role in developing the community and the country."

Her Royal Highness also reiterated the important roles and responsibilities of parents in educating their children in achieving academic excellence,

saying that early and informal education starts from home.

Her Royal Highness said, "We need to provide support to our children and to continue the quest of finding and obtaining knowledge at a higher level through the attitude of learning throughout our lifetime."

Following the Sabda, Her Royal Highness presented the prizes to the winners of the exhibition.

The winner for category A among associations was Paronita association, followed by Perbekal in second place and Pertiwi in third place.

The winner for the competition among secondary schools was Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hassan, while second place went to Sekolah Menengah Berakas.

After the award ceremony, Her Royal Highness received a Pesembah from the co-chairperson of the organising committee for the Domestic Science Exhibition, Datin Hajah Siti Hajar binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof. Her Royal Highness then toured the exhibition booths.

This year's Domestic Science Exhibition was organised by the Executive Committee for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 62nd birthday celebration and hosted by Persatuan Pertiwi Negara Brunei Darussalam. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
