By Rol Ezam and Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 21-year-old permanent resident was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to stealing mobile phones.

The defendant, Paul Tingom Anak Lakan, who is single and unemployed, admitted to stealing a Nokia 5200, a Nokia 6600 and an LG KE500 from a flat in Beribi on July 10 this year.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Hafizah binti Ahmad said only two phones were recovered by the police.

The court was told that the defendant, who has no previous conviction, crawled through the window and went inside the flat where he saw the three mobile phones.

He decided to steal the mobile phones.

He left the flat through the toilet window with the stolen items.

Police were later informed of the case, which led to the arrest of the defendant.   -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
