RBairF Host 13th Exercise Air Guard

Bandar Seri Begawan - In Conjunction with the 13th Exercise Air Guard held in Brunei Darussalam from August 20 to August 31, the Royal Brunei Air Force hosted a working visit by Major General Ng Chee Khern, the Chief of Air Force, Republic of Singapore Air Force.

The 13th Exercise Air Guard, which RBAirF is hosting for the second time and which the two Air Forces conducts jointly every year since 1994, involves the Air Regiment of RBAirF and the Air Defence Systems Division of the Republic of Singapore Air Force.

Yesterday, the visiting Chief of Air Force, RSAF, and Commander of RBAirF, Brigadier General Dato Paduka Hj Mahmud Hj Saidin, jointly officiated the opening ceremony of the Exercise Air Guard held at the Hangar No 38 Squadron at Berakas Garrison.

Upon arrival, Major General Ng Chee Khern was greeted with a guard of honour consisting of personnel from the two contingents.

The opening ceremony was initiated with a speech by the CO Air Regiment, Lt Col Hasmee Hj Abd Wahab, who noted that this year's exercise will see the involvement of 70 personnel, 36 personnel from Air Regiment (six officers and 30 other ranks) and 34 personnel from 18 Divisional Arty Bn (11 Officers and 23 other ranks).

Speaking about the exercise, he also noted that it comprises three-phases, whereby the first phase involves familiarisation, which includes joint lessons using AC recognition and discussion on Task Safety Analysis.

The second phase involves all Arms Air Defence and Forward Deployment and live sorties flown by RBAirF aircrafts that will simulate air-to-ground strikes on assets protected by the AIRGUARD Forces during the deployment exercises.

The final phase will comprise administrative tasks, visits to interesting places, sports activities and a Post Exercise Meeting.

Lt Col Hasmee further noted that the primary objectives of the exercise are to foster a closer working relationship, enhance knowledge and experiences of Air Defence between the Republic of Singapore and RBAirF personnel. Prior to the opening ceremony, Major General Ng Chee Khern paid courtesy calls to the Commander of RBAF, Pehin Dam Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awg Halbi Md Yussof, at Bolkiah Garrison.

Major General Ng Chee Khern, who is on an official visit from August 20 to August 22, also made a separate visit to the Commander of RBAirF at the Rimba Air Base.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
