Fun And Games At NLPS Sukan Ria

Begawan - Nearly 2000 students attended the Nusa Laila Puteri
School Sukan Ria at Padang Sekolah Menengah SOAS on Sunday, in
conjunction with His Majesty's 61st birthday celebrations.
Also present were students'
parents, several of whom also took part in the games, such as the
tug-of-war. The students took part in a variety of games.
Present to watch the event was the
Director of Administration and Services at the Ministry of
Education, Hj Abdullah bin Hj Metassim.
Also in attendance was Dr Pg Hj
Amir Mohd Yussof b Pg Hj Abbas Al-Haj, President and Managing
Director of NLPS.
The day began with an entrance
march by the NLPS Mini Band, followed by sports committees, teachers
and students.
Colourful
field performances before the start of the event were among the
highlights of the day.
In her speech, Principal Cikgu Hjh
Sharifah Noor bte Hj Saiyed Ibrahim said that it was undeniable that
sports served the recreational needs of every person, adding that
the Sukan Ria event promoted healthy and energetic bodies.
"The Sukan Ria is also capable of
strengthening ties and promotes solidarity among the students and
parents present," she added.
Parents must understand, she added,
that the Sukan Ria is a combination of the hopes and goals of the
school in supporting the Ministry of Education's policy through the
Co- curriculum Department in the pursuit of physical education.
To the students taking part, she
hoped that they would benefit from the event, and congratulated all
the winners.
She also advised those who did not
win not to feel disappointed and try again in the next meet.
Games included collecting sweets, a
baton relay, running through hoops, a ball relay, and an obstacle
race, rolling tyres, a three - legged race, a tug-of-war, several
track and field competitions and a gunny sack race.
NLPS has six branches nationwide
and is one of the largest and long-standing private schools in the
country, ranging from kindergarten to lower secondary levels. One of
the parents said, "It is nice to see so many NLPS students here from
all the branches. This is a good day to bring them together and to
