Quality Nursing Care For Kidney
Patients
By P Marilyn
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Quality Nursing Care Programme was launched
yesterday to introduce a new approach to the care of kidney
patients.
"Top quality care is the main aim
of the Department of Renal Services.
"Not only has the equipment been
upgraded, the department has also upgraded the development of human
resources by training staff locally and abroad," said Viktor
Keasberry, General Director of the Ministry of Health, representing
the guest of honour, Awg Yusof bin Amba, Deputy Permanent Secretary
at the Ministry of Health.
"The upgrade of the Renal Division
to Department of Renal Service has made the Brunei renal health
service almost at par with the developed countries.
"With the establishment of the
Renal Nurse Educator Programme last year, the Department of Renal
Services through its Renal Nurse educator will improve the present
renal service giving high quality service to all patients with renal
diseases," he said.
"The Department of Renal Services
continuously strives to improve the standard of care to all dialysis
patients, with the improvement of the quality of life as the main
priority," said the Chief Executive Officer of the Renal Services
Department, Dyg Hjh Noralia binti Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato
Paduka Hj Abd Rahim.
Organised by the Department of Renal Services,
Ministry of Health, the Quality Care Programme was presented by Dr
HLA Aung, Acting Specialist cum chairman of the organising
committee.
"The renal service is now not just
limited to treating the illness but also in disease prevention by
increasing public awareness of the illness through its renal health
promotion division," said Keasberry, on behalf of the chief guest.
"With the improvement of water
treatment in RIPAS dialysis centre, single use of haemodialysis
blood-lines and the recently approved automated peritoneal dialysis
to peritoneal dialysis patients, have all been achieved within a few
months by the department.
"This is a reflection of the
extensive improvement done by the department and the level of
commitment given by the renal staff in providing an efficient and
effective service to its patients.
"Cooperation from doctors, nurses,
patients and non-medical staff are essential for the effective
management of renal disease.
"Renal nurses have roles in the
management not only in the treatment of the end stage renal disease
patients but also in educating the public on renal disease including
prevention and early detection - to maintain health in patients
with chronic kidney disease, to slow down the progress of the kidney
disease and also to educate the end stage renal disease patients to
look after themselves," he said. -- Courtesy of Borneo
