Talk'
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Students in Brunei are encouraged to ‘click and
surf’ the Internet in addition to the traditional way of the
classroom's 'chalk and talk' as a technique to improve learning and
add knowledge and skills to survive in a new economic and vibrant
world.
Awg
Hj Ismail bin Hj Zainal, chairman of Inforama 2007, in his speech
during the Inforama Awards 2007 said teaching and learning nowadays
should now be more innovative and creative.
"The Inlbrama Awards 2007 was held
at this year's Inforama Camp at Berakas Secondary School. Present as
the guest of honour was the Permanent Secretary- at the Ministry of
Education, Dato Paduka Haji Shaikh Adnan bin Shaikh Mohammad.
"ICT", he said, "plays an important
role not only to the public but more importantly in the deli very of
knowledge to the students. The introduction of MOF3ITEL or Mobile
Teaching and Learning using laptops can further enhance the use of
ICT in classrooms."
The technique of 'chalk and talk',
he added, that is using whitehoard and markers, will no longer be
enough, saying that teachers and students will definitely get
additional knowledge by surfing the Internet, apart from reading
hooks, newspapers and magazines.
Earlier in his speech, he said that
since the launching of Inforama 2007 in mid March earlier this year,
a series of activities and competitions were carried out with the
theme "Empowering Education Through 1CT".
All these activities and
competitions were held at Sekolah Menengah Berakas.
‘Empowering Education through ICT'
was chosen as the theme for this year's Inforama which is in line
with MoE's strategic theme of 'Teaching and Leaming Excellence'.
He said one way that 'Teaching and
Learning Excellence' can be achieved is through ICT.
Meanwhile, nine teams from three
categories received their prizes for the Inforama Awards 2007 at the
ceremony.
Inforama
is organised in partnership with Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd.
The competition was divided into
four levels with Primary Schools competing in Level I, Secondary
Schools in Level 11 and III while higher institutions and the public
competed in Level IV. This year, the competition was participated by
124 schools.
Thirty-nine schools competed in the
Level II and 18 schools battled it out in Level III. The competing
schools comprised both government and non-government schools
including JIS and ISB.
According to Hj Ismail, he was very
impressed with the outcome of the competition and even went on to

with that of BICTA.
