influence its direction."
"This has been most evident in the
contribution your government and people have made in shaping the
direction of regional policy," His Majesty said.
The monarch said that Brunei is
privileged to host the Ministerial Meeting when Vietnam became a
member of Asean in 1995, resulting in the two countries becoming
close friends and strong regional partners.
His Majesty said that the
government and people of Vietnam have demonstrated the hard work and
confidence needed to implement "bold reforms."
"You have not only created the
region's fastest growing economy but have attracted the attention of
investors ail over the world," His Majesty added.
This fine record of achievement has
further led to Vietnam hosting last year's Apec Summit and entry
into the World Trade Organisation, His Majesty went on to say.
His Majesty said that Brunei is
pleased to play a small part in assisting Vietnam's growth through
education and training. "We are also delighted to have a growing
number of your people working here to help our development," said
His Majesty.
His Majesty said that Brunei is now
looking forward to expanding future opportunities in trade and
widening the scope of the two countries' friendship and cooperation.
Prime Minister Nguyen said that
with the strong determination of the two countries' leaders, both
countries have developed in various fields, including politics,
trade, culture, education and sports.
"Under the wise reign of His
Majesty, Brunei has now become a prosperous nation in the region,
possessing a modern oil and gas industry and is an rapidly
developing country," he said. He added that both countries have
