Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training
(Carat) 2007 exercise between the US Navy and the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces got underway early yesterday morning in the Brunei waters.
The exercise, which involved the
USS Jarrett FFG 33 and two of the Royal Brunei Navy ships - KDB
Waspada and KDB Pejuang - went on smoothly executing exercises which
had been planned beforehand.
Yesterday's exercise, which was
aimed at maintaining the state of readiness of the navy forces,
focused on the communications between the two navies. Exercise such
as maneuvering procedure whereby all the three ships took turns to
guide the ship convoy was executed perfectly.
Other exercises such as the
boarding exercise, landing helicopters on the ship deck and search
and rescue were aimed at preparing each navy force to upkeep their
level of effectiveness. Black Hawk and Sea Hawk from the Royal
Brunei Air Forces and US Navy were utilised during the exercise.
Another exercise that focused on
maintaining security was the boarding exercise whereby both navy
forces cooperated with each other to execute security checks on
ships for any suspicious activity.
