Building Ties With Music Show
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Hundreds turned up to watch the performance of
Orient Express, a contemporary band of the US Seventh Fleet on
Monday at Dewan Di Gadong, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports.
The travelling band, led by Chief
Daniel McGowan, returned to the country after a huge success last
year. They also captivated the audience during their performance
last weekend at The Mall, Gadong.
Present at Monday's show was
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa
Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Awang Mohammad bin Haji
Daud as the guest of honour.
Also in attendance at the event,
jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and
the US Embassy, were US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mr Emil
Skodon and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports Dato Paduka Haji Jemat Haji Ampal.
US Ambassador Skodon said the
Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (Carat) is an annual
exercise between the United States Pacific Command and the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces, aimed at improving the ability of both
militaries to operate together in the event of any contingency which
may arise, such as responding to a natural disaster in the Asean
region.
"Tonight's performance by Orient
Express will, we hope, also be a symbol of the close ties between
the United States Pacific Command and the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces," the envoy said. "The members of Orient Express are
constantly on the move, travelling throughout the Seventh Fleet area
of operations.
"We consider ourselves fortunate
that they found time in their busy schedule to make a trip back to
Brunei," he added. -- Courtesy of Borneo
