Demand For More Technical
Graduates

Begawan - There is still a strong demand for quality
technical graduates and professionals to serve the manpower needs of
the country, according to the acting permanent secretary at the
Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education hopes to
produce technical graduates to support the oil and gas industry, Hjh
Norjum Hj Yusop said. These graduates are those can specialise in
fields ranging from engineering to surveying and geology.
"To achieve this goal will mean.
more students taking up science and engineering courses," she said
at the launch of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) and Brunei Liquefied
Natural Gas' (BLNG) Career Exhibition.
She said that the ministry is
pushing more Bruneian students to take such courses at local higher
institutions and established foreign universities, as part of
government efforts to increase the number of science and engineering
graduates in the local workforce.
"The Ministry of Education is fully
committed to the goal of establishing an education system that
equips our students wills skills to meet the challenges of the 21st
century," she added.

Norjum also lauded BSP and BLNG for sponsoring various -projects
conducted by the ministry, in terms of developing Brunei's education
sector.
BSP's
initiatives and recruitment plan is not only aligned with the
company's "Bruneianisation" policy, but also observes the ministry's
strategic plan to provide quality education in achieving sustainable
social and economic development for the country, she said.
She said that the annual career
roadshow is a good opportunity for students to explore new career
options which are more relevant to their personal interests.
"This roadshow provides a more
personal dimension, enabling interested graduates and students to
ask in-depth questions on the BSP scheme and other technical or
operational schemes offered by BSP and BLNG," the acting permanent
secretary continued.
Moreover, the advice and guidance
provided at the exhibition will help graduates make informed choices
leading to rewarding careers, which are also relevant to the
nation's needs, she said. The exhibition at Centrepoint Hotel
showcases a diverse range of careers, such as an operations
engineer, geoscientist, as well as a petrophysicist.
Students can expect a comprehensive
overview of the academic requirements and recruitment procedures of
