By P Marilyn
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A group of 40 US Navy personnel yesterday morning
paid a visit to Pusat Ehsan at Kg Bengkurong.
The visit, organised by the US
Embassy and Brunei Darussalam's Ministry of Defence, was led by
Lieutenant Chaplain Alfred Pena. On hand to welcome the group was
Pusat Ehsan's physiotherapist, Kristoffer C. Fontillas.
At the centre, the group was taken on
a tour around Pusat Ehsan to observe the special students' daily
activities.
Outdoor games and a cleaning campaign
were also scheduled to take place during the visit, however, due to
unforeseen weather conditions, the outdoor activities were cancelled.
To further entertain their guests, a singing performance was held by
Nor Ashwani, one of the special students of the centre, as well as
other numerous indoor activities.
According to Chaplain Alfred Pena,
the purpose of their visit to Pusat Ehsan was to show the people of
Brunei that people from the anned forces are no different from others.
He also added that the children of
Pusat Ehsan were very charming and - with a majority of the sailors
are parents - being with the students reminded them of their own
children back home.
Meanwhile LTJG Jones of the US Coast
Guard Cutter Sherman, who is involved in arranging social visits, said
that the visit was themed "Children", because children enjoy people's
company and so does adults.
One of the US Navy personnel, Natalie
Pagliaro, said that she was impressed by Pusat Ehsan and hoped to send
a donation to the centre as soon as she returns home.
Members of the Board of Trustees, and
Pusat Ehsan's management and staff as well as the special students
conveyed their sincere gratitude to the US Navy personnel for making
time to visit the centre during their stay in the Sultanate, as well
as to the US Embassy and the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam
for organising the visit.
Lastly, a special thanks was also
conveyed to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces for their everlasting and
continuous relationship and support to Pusat Ehsan. -- Courtesy of Borneo
