170 for Brunei Triathlon

A total of 170 participants have
registered for the upcoming first Brunei Darussalam National Triathlon
2006 which will be held on Sunday (Aug 13) at the Serasa beach.
Four categories will be contested,
namely aged 19 and above, aged 18 and below, men's team event and
women's team event.
Testing the limit of the human's
physical and mentality aspects, participants in the individual and
team events have three disciplines - a 500m swim followed by cycling
for a distance of 42km and to complete the gruesome course, running
for a distance of 10km to the finish line.
"All participants must attend a
meeting on Saturday (Aug 12) at 2pm in the Dewan Kuliah of the
Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium to register and receive the numbers
for the tournament," Awang Kifli bin Hj Jaafar, the chief sports
community unit under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports said.
He also added that any participants
who failed to register their numbers would not be able to take part in
the competition.
Awang
Kifli also urged participants to arrive on the day of the competition
at 4.45am sharp to place their gears like bicycle, running shoes and
others on the designated transition areas.
Participants who arrive after 6am
will not be permitted to put their gears at the transition area.
The chief sports community unit also
urged members of the public to cooperate and be cautious while driving
on the route of the triathlon which will involve the highway leading
to Kg Perpindahan Lambak Kanan from Muara, Jalan Muara and Jalan
Perperindahan Lambak Kanan.
The first Brunei Darussalam National
Triathlon 2006 is organised by the Youth and Sport Department with the
co-operation of the three sporting associations namely swimming,
cycling and athletics.
The top prize for the individual
event is $2,000 while team event is $1,500.
