RBPF, Japan Coast Guard Begin 2nd Joint Exercise

Bandar Seri Begawan - An exercise between the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and the Japan Coast Guard, the second of its kind, began yesterday and will run till August 29.

The joint exercise also involves personnel and assets from the Marine Police team, Special Task Unit and the Royal Brunei Air Force,

The Japan Coast Guard PLH31 `Shikishima' patrol ship docked Wednesday morning at the Muara Port. Equipped with two Puma helicopters and manned by 79 officials and a small ship, the vessel is headed by the commanding officer of the ship, Capt. Kenji Ninomiya.

Several activities had been lined up for the Japan Coast Guard visit, including courtesy calls to the Royal Brunei Police Headquarters and Muara Marine Police Headquarters, among others.

Activities that will be held on August 27 are aimed at improving combined capabilities and co-operation ranging from curbing and fighting criminal activities in the Brunei waters to fostering relationships between the two agencies involved.

Yesterday, Capt. Kenji Ninomiya paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police, Pehin Data Paduka Seri Awg Zainuddin bin Jalani at the Royal Brunei Police Headquarters in Gadong. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
