Brunei Shell Refinery Achieves
Another First
Bandar Seri
Begawan - One of the missions of the Brunei Shell Refinery is
to operate the (Refinery) Plant safely and reliably whilst protecting
the health of the people and preserving the environment.
On this note, the management and
staff of Brunei Shell Refinery has taken another leading role towards
achieving this mission.
A press release from External
Affairs, Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd yesterday stated that "the Refinery
embarked on the journey to upgrade the Refinery Environmental
Management system to the new ISO 14001:2004". The Refinery had earlier
been certified to the ; previous IS014001:1996 Environmental
Management System in April 2000, which in itself was a first in the
country.
Organisations
that are certified to the previous IS014001:1996 are given until June
2006 to upgrade to the new requirements.
The upgrade for the Refinery involves
some meticulous planning to update all the necessary Quality documents
and also to increase staff awareness and understanding of the new
requirements through staff awareness training, engagement sessions,
road shows and environmental management quizzes.
The upgrade audit was conducted on
July 22, 2005 by Bureau Veritas (Brunei) who flew in an environmental
management expert to conduct the audit.
The Refinery was very proud to be
among the first to be recommended by BV for the certification of the
new ISO 14001:2004. The certificates were issued on August 15. --
