Royal Tour Of HMS York

Begawan - HMS York, the latest and most modern of the British
Royal Navy's type 42 Air Defence Destroyers, currently on a three-day
goodwill visit to the Sultanate, yesterday received a royal visit by
HRH Prince General Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior
Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

Present to greet His Royal Highness
at Muara Port were Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major
General Pehin Datu Lailaraja Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Md
Yussof, British High Commissioner Mr John Saville, and Permanent
Secretary at PMO, Dato Paduka Hj Sulaiman Hj Ismail.
Also present were Acting
Commander of Royal Brunei Navy, Lt Col Syed Abdillah Dato Syed
-Hussein, British Defence Adviser Captain (RN) P H Watson and
Commander of HMS York, Captain (RN) Matt Harvey.
On board, His Royal Highness
attended a briefing conducted by Captain (RN) Harvey on the ship's
profile and operational functions before cruising offshore.
His Royal Highness was then
escorted to the ship's bridge to witness a winching exercise
involving a helicopter hovering over the ship.
This was followed by a tour of
the vessel's navigational equipment and artilleries as well as
other facilities on board. |

His Royal Highness, prior to
consenting to attend a get-together session with officers and crew
of the ship, witnessed a fuel replenishment process of the vessel
by the Light Fleet Tanker, RFA Black Rover.
Upon completion of the tour, His
Royal Highness was escorted to the hangar and witnessed a fire
fighting demonstration here. |
As the ship prepared to return to the
harbour, His Royal Highness went back to the ship's bridge to view the
ship reenter the harbour. After disembarking from HMS York, His Royal
Highness consented to attend mass Zohor prayers at the Surau of the
Royal Brunei Navy.
Yesterday's visit to HMS York
displayed His Royal Highness' interest in the close cooperation
between the Royal Navies of both countries, which has grown from
strength to strength over the years.
HMS York and RFA Black Rover's
goodwill visit aims to promote and underline the strong defence links
of United Kingdom with Brunei Darussalam and its long-standing
interests in the region. --
