Dumpsite More Than Eyesore To
Residents
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The back of a building at a commercial area in
Simpang 508, Jalan Jerudong is fast becoming a dumping ground, leaving
residents in the area worried over the possible health hazard that
accompanies it.
They said it was not a case of
uncollected garbage but irresponsible litterbugs who thought the area
perfect as a dumping ground.
Nearby restaurants also complained
about the foul smell as well as flies and vermin infesting the
dumpsite.
A restaurant operator said the
rubbish produced a large number of flies that were causing problems to
his business.
Another tenant said the rubbish was
attracting vermin and "something has got to be done as it is
unhygienic to residents".
"It has been a dumping ground for a
long time. Unless it is addressed quickly, it will become worse,
eventually causing health hazard," he added.
Frequent diners in the area said the
place may have been used as a dumpsite by litterbugs as they could not
find a suitable place nearby to discard of rubbish.
"Perhaps a proper dumping ground
should be set up so people in the area can throw away their garbage,"
they said.
"It is a mess. The whole place needs
a clean up. There is too much uncollected rubbish." --
