Students Should Focus On Education, Shun Social Ills

Bandar Seri Begawan - Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pengiran Hj Abd Rahman, Deputy Minister of Education, reiterated the importance of students focusing on academics and distancing themselves from social ills yesterday, during the 20th anniversary ceremony of the PIHM Secondary School in Serasa.

The Deputy Minister, who was accompanied by permanent Secretary, Sheikh Hj Adrian Sheikh Mohammad, and Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Pg Datin Hajah Mariam Pg Hj Matarsat and Hj Ishaaq Hj Abdullah, from the Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of students performing well in their academic examinations and attaining O' and A' Level qualifications, which may have repercussions on their academic future.

The Deputy Minister went' on to say that students that do well will not just reap benefits but also better reflect the work, care and dedication of their teachers, schools and families. Pg Dato Dr Hj Mohammad also touched on how students should distance themselves from social ills such as smoking and drug abuse, saying that their time would be better spent focusing on their studies.

The delegation from the Ministry of Education also toured a gallery exhibiting memorable events in the 20 years since the school's inception.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of PIHM Secondary school, the finals of an Al-Quran recital competition between secondary schools and colleges across the nation was hosted by the school at the PIHM's hall.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
