The announcement over Radio Television Brunei said that the Brunei ruler conducted “pernikahan” with “Puan Azrinaz Mazhar binte Hakin Mazhar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday, 16’Rejab 1426 corresponding to 20th August, 2005.”

The broadcast however quoting the 59-year-old ruler’s Private and Confidential Secretary denied a Malaysian newspaper story that another wedding ceremony would take place in Brunei next month.

The announcement said “By Command of His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Office of the Private and Confidential Secretary to His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam, wishes to deny the truth of the content of the article titled: "Majlis Perkahwinan di Brunei bulan depan" which appeared in the Malaysian newspaper "Berita Harian" on 24th August, 2005.
