St John's School recently organised a chess competition, which attracted the participation of about 64 students. The one-day event was under the supervision of Mr Joseph Toh and Mr Leong from BCF (Brunei Chess Federation).

After a stiff competition, Frederick Wong from Form 2 won the 'Above 14' category, while Nikhil Ramesh from Form 1 was the champion in the '12 to 14 years old' category.

In the '10 to 12 years old' category, Muhd Afiq bin Hj Musa bagged first place, while Abdul Khalig triumphed in the 'Under 10' age group category.

Prizes were presented by the school's principal, Awang Hj Zainal Abidin Mahari, who commended the importance of playing chess in developing children's skills in inductive and deductive reasoning.
