St John's holds chess competition

School principal of St John's School
presenting prizes.
St John's School recently organised a
chess competition, which attracted the participation of about 64
students. The one-day event was under the supervision of Mr Joseph Toh
and Mr Leong from BCF (Brunei Chess Federation).
After a stiff competition, Frederick
Wong from Form 2 won the 'Above 14' category, while Nikhil Ramesh from
Form 1 was the champion in the '12 to 14 years old' category.
In the '10 to 12 years old' category,
Muhd Afiq bin Hj Musa bagged first place, while Abdul Khalig triumphed
in the 'Under 10' age group category.
Prizes were presented by the school's
principal, Awang Hj Zainal Abidin Mahari, who commended the importance
of playing chess in developing children's skills in inductive and
deductive reasoning.
