Bandar Seri Begawan - A Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was held at the PAP Mejeedah Nuurul Bulqiah Religious in Kampong Kilanas recently. Present as the chief guest was Dr Awang Zainal Ariffin Hj Awang Yahya, Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Health.

The ceremony is an annual project of Islamic Studies Department of the Ministry of Education, which has been organised by religious schools in the Sultanate for the past 20 years or so.

Among other things, the ceremony aimed to instil the culture of reading al-Quran fluently, especially for Primary Six students who will be completing their studies at the religious school. The ceremony also aimed to enhance relationships among the parents of the students and the school staff and teachers.

A total of 116 students, representing the morning and afternoon school sessions, including 59 boys, participated in the event. Dayang Hajah Norainah Hj Kula, the school headmistress, noted that the number of participants has increased from year to year. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
