MIPR Minister Visits Kuala Belait

The Minister of Industry and Primary Resources- (MIPR), Pehin
Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, conducted a
working visit yesterday to Kuala Belait.
Accompanying him were Deputy Minister
of MIPR, Dato Awang Haji Hamdillah bin Haji Abd Wahab, and Permanent
Secretary, Dato Awang Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Mohd Jaafar, as well as
senior officers from the Ministry.
The visit was a proactive move by the
Ministry to closer observe the development of agriculture, fisheries,
forestry and industries in the area, while identifying problems faced
by industrialists.
The entourage started their visit at
Koperasi Perniagaan dan Perindustrian Melayu Sdn Bhd in Jalan Bunga
Kenangan, Pekan Seria.
The co-op oversees the gas station,
hotels, offices and business of the co-op's shop, as well as handles
school bus cooperation.
Next, the group visited the Brunei
Industrial Development Authority (BINA) at Belait Industrial Complex.
They also visited Brunei Oxygen Sdn
Bhd, situated along Jalan Setia Diraja, which started operations on
December 5, 2000. Brunei Oxygen actively produces acetylene, oxygen,
nitrogen and compressed air production, such as oxygen and acetylene
plants.
The company is managed by Lee
Tian.Yau, who employs 16 workers, half of whom are locals.
The Belait Fisheries Centre at Jalan
Sungai was amongst the places visited by the MIPR delegation before
heading to Syarikat Kilang Papan Maskayu Sdn Bhd in Labi. The company,
which specialises in producing timber, is owned by Liew Ah Moy, who
has a $1 million investment in it.
The entourage also visited the
Forestry Centre Office and Agriculture Station in Sungai Liang before
concluding the trip with a visit to Golden Chicks Hatchery and
Breeding Poultry Farm in Sungai Paku. --
