3 Foreigners Jailed, Caned For Immigration Offences

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two Bangladeshi and an Indonesian national were all sentenced to three months' imprisonment and three strokes of the cane by the Bandar Magistrate's Court for an offence under the Immigration Act.

Abdus Salam Abdullah Miah, 41, pleaded guilty to remaining in the country unlawfully for 559 days after the expiry of his social visit pass on February 8 last year.

Another Bangladeshi, Ikbal Idris Ali, 27, admitted to unlawfully remaining in Brunei for 312 days after the expiry of his employment pass.

Indonesian Abdul Hakam Hj dayat, 29, pleaded guilty to remaining here unlawfully after the expiry of his special pass on February 10 last year.

All the defendants were arrested four days ago at two different areas by the Immigration personnel. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
