Man Jailed, Another Fined For Illegal Entry

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday sentenced a 29-year-old Indonesian to jail for three months with three strokes of the cane for entering the country illegally.

Mastur bin Ali, according to the Immigration Prosecutor, was apprehended during a raid by Immigration Enforcement officers while he was working at a construction site in Kg Tanjong Nangka two nights ago.

Mastur did not have any passport and was found to have entered the country illegally on August 16.

Meanwhile, 44 year-old Slamet was fined S1, 000 or serve two months in jail after pleading guilty to two charges of failing to produce his passport upon entering the country.

The court heard the defendant failed twice to produce his passport to the Immigration officer on duty at the Kuala Lurah Control Post upon entry from neighbouring Limbang on May 1. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
