Local SSEAYP participants undergo
orientation week
By Hussin HJ
An orientation programme for the 28
selected participants of the upcoming 32nd Ship for Southeast Asian
Youth Programme 2005 (SSEAYP 2005) is currently being held at the
Youth Centre in the capital.
The primary aim of the five-day
programme running from 21st until 25th August is to build up team
spirit and unity among the participating youths before their trip.
During their stay at the Youth Centre, the youths are also attending
several talks on related subjects conducted by several government
agencies as well as undergoing physical activities and leadership
training prior to their departure scheduled in November this year.
Sponsored by the Japanese Government
and supported by the Asean member countries, SSEAYP is an annual
programme aimed at fostering friendship and greater understanding
among youths from Japan and Asean. Brunei has been taking part in the
programme for 21 years, joining as an observer in 1984 and obtaining
full participation the following year.
The in-voyage programme meanwhile
includes discussions on social and youth matters, cultural
introductions, sports, recreation and club activities.
Activities at each port-of-call
include interactions with the local youths, courtesy calls on
dignitaries and institutional visits as well as community service and
home-stay experience.
