Knights Tame The Lions
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - SK Knights of Korea got off to a roaring start in the
5th Shell Rimula Cup - Brunei Basketball Tournament 2005 when they
easily tamed China's Shangdong Jinsidun Lions 81-62 in the opening
game at the National Indoor Stadium yesterday.
SK Knights import Wesley Wilson
contributed 16 points while No.1 Huang Jin Won bagged 18 points with
four rebounds, two assists, one block and four steal and No.32 Kim IL
Do contributed 21 points for the whole game.
The only two players who were on
double digit figure for the Chinese team were No.4 Wang Gang with 11
points and No.2 Zhoa Yonggang with 10 points
Playing to an almost full-house
stadium, both teams started cautiously in their first game.
However, it was the Koreans who drew
first blood when they jumped to a 13-8 lead thanks to precision three
pointers.
By the end of the first quarter, SK
Knights took a six-point lead at 19-13.
Keeping the game close, the Chinese
team was defensive all round and had difficulties containing the fast
Korean forwards.
SK Knights stretched their lead to
39-22 by the end of the second quarter.
There was no letup by the Koreans
after the breather and the lackluster Lions couldn't find an answer to
the Koreans' offence.
At times the Chinese seemed to be
chasing shadows. SK Knights continued to dominate and led comfortably
62-42 at the end of the third quarter.
As the clock ticked away in the
fourth quarter, it was apparent the Koreans were too fast and too good
for the Chinese winning 81-62 at the final buzzer.
Today, SK Knights will take on Alaska
Aces followed by Toshiba Bravethunders against IBL All Stars and
Shangdong Jinsidun Lions taking on PBA All Stars. --
