Senior Minister’s Concern Towards
National Security

Begawan - National security was top of the agenda yesterday for
the Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness
Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince as he continued with a
series of official visits to the Internal Security Department, the
Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The Internal Security Department (ISD)
was the first of the three departments under the Prime Minister's
Office the Senior Minister visited. During a briefing delivered by the
Deputy Minister at PMO who is also the Director of ISD, Dato Hj Eusoff
Agaki bin Hj Ismail, The Senior Minister learnt more of the
organisation's roles and functions, as well as the projects
facilitated by the department.
The Senior Minister also took a
closer look at the counter terrorism unit, which was among the few
sections that he consented to inspect at ISD.
At the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),
the subjects of interest questioned by the Senior Minister were on the
success rates of corruption cases that had been brought to court, and
whether the bureau had identified the agencies that are easily exposed
towards corruption activities.
This was asked after the briefing
session delivered by the Director of ACB, Datin Hajah Intan binti Hj
Kassim, wheree she outlined the bureau's history and roles. Among the
sections explained by ACB's Director involved Operations, Prevention,
Community and Help Services.
Present to greet the Senior Minister
on arrival at the Narcotics Control Bureau was its Acting Director Awg
Hj Abdul Majid bin Mangarshah, who delivered a briefing to The Senior
Minister. Awg Hj Abdul Majid outlined the roles and functions of NCB
and disclosed the statistics.
During a Q&A session, the Senior
Minister was keener to learn about the preventive measures taken by
the bureau against drug trafficking in the Sultanate.
The briefing was followed by a raid
and capture demonstration as well as firing of a weapon demonstrated
by NCB personnel.
NCB
operation equipment and antidrugs displays were also inspected by the
Senior Minister.
Present during the Senior Minister's
official visits were permanent secretaries at the Prime Minister's
Office including Pengiran Dato Hj Abu Bakar bin Pengiran Hj Ismail,
Dato Hj Sulaiman bin Hj Ismail, Pengiran Dato Hj Ismail bin Pengiran
Hj Mohamed. Acting Permanent Secretary at PMO, Hj Khamis bin Hj Tamin,
and Deputy Permanent Secretary at PMO, Dyg Hajah Salbiah binti Hj
Sulaiman, as well as senior officers of ISD.
The Senior Minister consented to
perform the Zohor prayer at the Royal Brunei Police Force Surau before
proceeding to the Police Officer's Mess for luncheon with ISD, ACB and
