ABU Prizes 2005 Finalists

Begawan - The ABU Prizes 2005 pre-selection jury announced the
finalists for the TV and Radio categories, including the nominees for
the "Special Jury Prize".
The jury screened 76 entries for
Radio and 125 entries for TV during the preselection session held in
Kuala Lumpur from August- 11 till 13, a press release stated.
Forty entries have been selected to
compete in the final round of judging in "Drama", "Entertainment",
"Children and Youth" and "News and Documentary" categories - including
the "Special Jury Prize" for both Radio and TV.
The pre-selection jury for Radio,
chaired by Kim Kyung Hee, Deputy Director, International Relations of
KBS-Korea, included representatives from ABU member broadcasters RTHK-Hong
Kong, MediaCorp Radio-Singapore and TRTTurkey.
The jury for TV included
representatives from BBS-Bhutan, CCTVChina, TBS-Japan, TVM-Maldives,
with Mohammad Hossein Tamjidi, Film & TV Director/Producer of IRIB-Iran
acting as Chairperson.
A total of 201 entries from 57
organisations were submitted for this year's competition - an increase
of almost 30 per cent over last year's submissions.
"The entries were, in general, of
high quality and representative of the four qualities of well-produced
radio programmes, which are: Informative, Interesting, Inspirational
and Imaginative," Ms Kim said.
"The standard of TV production among
_member countries is going up year by year. The jury had very fruitful
and professional discussions before making the final decision," Mr
Tamjidi said.
The final judging for the ABU Prizes
2005 will be held on November 21 and 22, followed by the awards
ceremony on November 26 in Hanoi, Vietnam at the ABU General Assembly.
The list of finalists for Radio in
the category of Drama are The Barber (RTPRC/ CNR-China), Hong Kong
Superman (RTHK-Hong Kong), That Moment (AIRIndia) andThe Sorrow Of War
(NHKJapan); in the category of Infotainment are Singing To Heaven-My
Blind Brothers (RTPRC/CNR-China), Red And White (RTHK-Hong Kong),
Mubarak (IRIB-Iran) and Oh Happy Day-A Choir by Drug Addicts
(TBS-Japan).
Meanwhile the list of finalists for
Radio in the category of Children and Youth are Lovely Summer-Nursery
Rhyme (RTPRC/ CNR-China), We Are Friends! We Are Hope! (KBS-Korea),
Supercharge! Young Power Show with Kim Jinsoo (EBS-Korea) and The
White Bicycle (TRT Turkey); while finalist in the category of News and
Documentary are When Will You Go Back Home? - Identity Has Ears
WILE-Finland), I Won't Die In Death (AIR-India), My Father's Legacy (MBC-Rep
of Korea) arid Pitcairn: A Broken Dream (RNZ-New Zealand).
List of finalists for the Special
Jury Prize are Children (RTA-Afghanistan), Water Life-A Tale Of Flood
Affected People (BBBangladesh), Mean Nun Moth Fly Into The Fire (LNR-Laos)
and ANation Across the Sea (MBC-Sri Lanka).
The list of finalists for TV in the
category of Drama are Solo (RTPRC/ CCTV China), Dr Seishu Hanaoka's
Wife (NHK-Japan), Out Of Sorrow ... Courage (NAB/MBS-Japan) and My
Sweet Tohram (SBS-Korea); while in the category of Entertainment are
My Favourite Book (ABC-Australia), John Safran vs God (SBS-Australia),
Sasuke (TBS-Japan) and Vitamin (KBS-Korea).
The list of finalists for TV in the
category of Children and Youth are Dream Chasers - Metamorphosis (RTHK-Hong
Kong), Quintet (NIA-Japan), High School Hip Hop Kid ... Dirty, Dusty
And Hooked on Sumo (NAB/HBC-Japan) and My Tooth, The Coward (EBS-Korea);
while finalists in the category of News and Documentary are The
Kremlin-In The Heart Of Russia (ARD/NDR-Germany), Banda Aceh On The
Day (TVRIIndonesia), Hederse (IRIB-Iran) and 20 Days Without TV (EBS-Korea).
Meanwhile, finalists for the Special
Jury Prize are The Doma Seller And The Badamwalla (BBS-Bhutan),
Malaysian Idol Audition Season 1 (TV3/STV-Malaysia), Indus Delta (GEO
TV Pakistan) and The Crib (SLRC-Sri Lanka).
Entries for the External Broadcasts
and Sports categories will be judged by a separate jury. There is no
pre-selection for these two categories. --
