Eight Students Get Straight A's At
JIS

Begawan - Jerudong International School (JIS) achieved some
very creditable results in this year's A-level examinations. The pass
rate was 99.4 per cent with 37.2 per cent of the passes being `A'
grades, 62.2 per cent `A or `B' grades and 84.1 per cent at `A', `B'
or `C' grades, stated a press release.
Those who took Further Mathematics
and Accounting all gained `A's. Students also achieved `A' or `B' in
these subjects: History and Economics (80 per cent), Music (100 per
cent), Mathematics (76 per cent), Chemistry (73 per cent), Biology (69
per cent), Physics (54 per cent), Psychology (68 per cent), Art and
Design (62 per cent), Drama (66 per cent) and English Literature (57
per cent).
Three students got the Advanced
Extension Award after gaining a Distinction or Merit in Chemistry and
one with Distinction in History. At AS level, pass rate was 84.8 per
cent with the best results in French and Further Mathematics.
All entries in these subjects were
classed at `A grades. Eight students achieved straight A's in their
A-level examinations.
They were Koay Shi Wen, Keren Ashley
Johnson, Arun Korah Philip, Nihal Daniel Thomas, Edward Yapp Kien Yee,
Sonali Sudhirchandra Shah, Brandon Ng Boon Soon and Julian Tan Li
Kwang.
Students have met their offers for
entry to Imperial College, University College London, London School of
Economics as well as Warwick, Manchester, Salford and Nottingham
universities. Keren Johnson already has a place in Harvard. Others
will be applying to Australia.
The new academic year is full of
promise. JIS sees the opening of a new Sixth Form centre and four new
science laboratories next week.
Mandarin is now offered for the first
time from Kindergarten level. A full Ugama programme will also be
available. --
