Winners Of Healthy Baby Contest

Bandar Seri Begawan - The presentation of prizes for the Healthy Baby Contest for the BruneiMuara District was held at the International Convention Centre, Berakas. The contest was organised by the Executive Committee of His Majesty 59th birthday celebration for the district and the Brunei Darussalam Women's Institute (WI).

Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adrian bin Hj Hanafiah, Brunei-Muara District Officer, was the guest of honour at the event, which began with the welcoming remarks by Datin Hjh Masni bte Hj Mohd Ali, Co-chairperson of the competition.

Datin Hjh Masni said among the competition's objectives was to emphasise the importance of taking good care of children's health, particularly when they are still a baby, so that they would become a healthy adult in every aspect, which would enable them to contribute towards the country's development.

The theme for the contest coincided with the World Health Day's - "Every Child and Mother Counts". She mentioned the research done by the Ministry of Health, for which the results were published in the PELITA BRUNEI, October 27, 2005.

The research revealed that 17.8 per cent of boys aged five to 10 years old suffered from obesity. Meanwhile, the figure for girls is eight per cent. These percentages are higher than in other Asean countries.

The study also found that these boys and girls have high cholesterol. The guest of honour presented the prizes to the winners of the various categories, who received hampers and prize-money for opening a bank account with Baiduri Bank. Consolation prizes were also presented.

In Category A for babies aged six months to nine months, first place was won by Ak Muhammad Amir Aqel bin Pg Roddey Hartino, second place was won by Viktorya Aurella Khairunnisya bte Hj Bakar and Muhammad Haziq Igbal bin Kamarul Zaman. -

In Category B for babies aged nine months to 12 months, first place was won by Muhammad Izzul Mirza bin Syarqawi, second was Nur Amizah bte Zulzali and third Zafeerah Humairah bte Zul-Fakhri.

In Category C for babies aged 12 months to 18 months, first place was won by Mohammad Nub Hafizuddin, second was AinaAzyyati bte Md Rezal and third Fitri Nur Shafira bte Hj Abd Hamid.

In Category D for babies aged 18 months to 24 months, first place was won by Abdul Aziz bin Noor Nasran,' second was Dk Norwafiq Nazariah btePg Bahrin and third Md Khairul Fazillah bin Hj Mohd Fadillah.

In Category E- for twins, first place was won by Nur Syadina bte Mohd Khalid and Nur Syaizza bte Mohd Khalid. Second place was won by Nur Unaizah Wafdiyah and Nur Ruqaiyah Wafdiyah. Third place was won by Ahmad Rauufurrahim Khan and Ahmad Fathurrahman Khan.

In Category F for babies born on July 15, 2005, first place was won by Nur Syara bte Rahimee and second was Siti Amal Zahirah Rusyidina bte Bahrin. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
