Star-Studded Line-Up For Shell
Rimula Cup
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei basketball fans are in for a treat as the
Republic of Philippines will be sending a star-studded line-up to
represent their country in the upcoming 5th Shell Rimula Cup--Brunei
Basketball Tournament 2005.
There will be two teams from the
Philippines but the first team which is the PBA San Miguel Corporation
RP team will be loaded with superstars from the elite league in the
Philippines.
Heading this line-up will be Asi
Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Rommel Adducul and they will-be-joined by 10
other superstars from the same league.
Taulava and Alapag are two of the
biggest stars from the Philippines and together form the cornerstone
of Talk and Text's recent domination in the PBA.
Brunei fans will certainly have fond
memories of Adducul as it was his leadership and inspirational play
that led the Suncity - Dragons to this title back in 2002.
The trio will be joined by Anthony
Helterbrand, Florendo Ritualo JR, Donaldo Hontiveros, Daniel Charles
Seigle, Anthony Bryan dela Cruz, Kerby Raymundo, Nicholas Belasco,
John Billy Mamaril, Dorian Pena and Kelly Williams.
The second team from the Philippines
will be the Alaska Aces, one of the top teams in the PBA having
finished an outstanding third place finish in the recent PBA league
standings.
While not as glamorous as their more
illustrious counterparts in the RP team, - Alaska will definitely be a
team to be reckoned with in this tournament.
This is the second time that the PBA
have sent teams to Brunei following the appearance of Red Bull and
Purefoods last year and will be hoping for a better showing after
neither team made it to the final which was eventually won by Korea's
TG Xers.
The tournament will be held at the
National Indoor Stadium from August 2028 and along with the two
Filipino outfits will be contested by four other teams from Indonesia,
China, Japan and Korea.
The tournament is being brought to
the public courtesy of title sponsors Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd,
supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and managed by
MVP Event Management Company. --
