Dairy Farm
By Cedrina Norlaila Abd.
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Over 70 students from Kg Mata-Mata Primary School,
Gadong yesterday afternoon paid a visit to Mashhor Dairy Farm in Kg
Jerudong, the only dairy farm in the country. The students were
accompanied by nine teachers.
The visit began with a briefing by
Arthur Tan, the farm's operations manager, who pointed out that fresh
milk, was milked twice a day at the farm - the first session at 5am
and the other at 2pm. The farm's 140 cows produce about 300 litres of
fresh milk a dav.
During the visit, the students saw
how fresh milk was made, pasteurised and packed. More interestingly,
they were shown how milk was processed the halal way. They also toured
the processing area where fresh yoghurt is made daily.
The group of students, comprising
those from Primary 2, 3, and 4, also had the opportunity to feed cows.
The students found the trip to the
dairy farm to be most fascinating.
According to one of the supervising
teachers, Cikgu Sadullah bin Hj Kassim, the trip benefited the
students, as they could see firsthand how milk was produced and
processed.
Cikgu
Mardianah Pungut, meanwhile, looked forward to more trips to the farm
for the benefit of the students. She said that such trips could
motivate some to become veterinarians.
The farm had also received a visit
from another school earlier this week. On Tuesday morning, 27 students
and eight, teaches from Jerudong Arabic School visited the farm.
