Certificates, Souvenirs For Participants Of Religious Competition

Bandar Seri Begawan - Certificates of participation and souvenirs were yesterday presented to participants of the `Memorising al-Quran and Surah-Surah Verses' semi-final competition, in a ceremony held at the Seri Begawan Religious Teaching College in Jalan Tutong.

The competition was organised, by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to coincide with the Nuzul alQuran celebrations.

The final is scheduled to be held some time in September. Present as guest of honour at the event was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato PadukaAwang Hj Abdul Rahman bin Hj Mohiddin.

The religious event opened with welcoming remarks delivered by Awang Kassim bin Metali, the co-chairperson of the competition.

In his speech, Awang Kassim said the religious activity aims to encourage Muslim individuals - particularly children, students and teenagers - to have interest in reading the al-Quran fluently and to have more people memorising the al-Quran.

The competition is this year split into four categories: - Category A - Memorising all the lazim verses. Category B - Memorising An-Naba verses, AlInsyiqaaq verses, Al-Buruj verses, Ath- Thariq verses, Al-Fajr verses, As-Sajdah verses, Yassin verses, Ad- Dukhan verses, Ar-Rahmaan verses, A1-Wagi'ah verses and Al-Mulk verses.

Category C - Memorising Juz I till Juz 9 of the al-Quran. Category D - Memorising Juz 1 till Juz 20 of the al-Quran

The highlights of the day were the announcing of the names of participants who have proceeded to the final level of the competition, and the presentation of certificates and souvenirs by the guest of honour.

The contestants who will move on to the finals are: Category A - Mohammad Raihan bin Hj Mohd Sahri, Abdul Qawiyul Aziz bin Hj Abdul Rajid, Mohammad Syazwan bin Shahdun, Syafiqah bte Hj Ayub and Syahirah bte Hj Jaafar.

Category B - Mohammad Naj ib bin Hj Aliakbar, Norhanisah bte Hj Abdul Rani, Hana Hasibah bte Hj Bagul, DkNorakmaliah bte Pg Hj Sulaiman and Munjiah bte Hj Jahari.

Category C - Mohammad Helmi bin Ali, Mohammad Mahadir bin Hj Adi, Mohammad Izzat bin Hj Ahmad, Hj Hamidi bin Hj,Abdul Wahid and Norasilah bte Hj Awang Putting.

Category D - Mohammad Khairul Anuar bin Hj Ahmad, Mohammad Khairul Hafiz bin Hj Roslin, Khairul Anuar bin Hj Mohammad, Yasir bin Hj Ibrahim and Mohammad Fikri bin Sharbini. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
