Indonesians Jailed For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two Indonesian nationals were sentenced by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after they pleaded guilty to a charge under the Immigration Act.

Subiyanto, 28, was sentenced to six months imprisonment and three strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to remaining unlawfully in this country for 762 days after the expiry of his social visit pass on July 11, 2003.

The defendant was arrested yesterday at a rented house in Kampong Mulaut, Jalan Limau Manis.

Meanwhile, Subarti Jur'in, a 29-year-old woman, was sentenced to five months in jail after she pleaded guilty to the same offence.

The Immigration Prosecutor said the defendant's social visit pass had expired on November 14, last year. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
