RBA Flight With 232 Passengers Makes Emergency Landing

Bandar seri Begawan - A Royal Brunei Airlines flight, which developed a mechanical problem in its nose landing gear 20 minutes into the flight, landed safely at the Brunei International Airport yesterday.

RBA's public relations office in a- statement said as a safety precaution, the captain of Flight B1083 decided to return the flight to base where the technical fault could be further investigated and repaired.

The Jeddah bound flight that departed Bandar Seri Begawan at 2.30pm, turned around and-landed safely at 3.20pm at the Brunei International Airport.

Following standard safety procedures, airport emergency services were activated immediately.

The flight carried 232 passengers and 11 crew members. Meanwhile, -according to the Head of Operations for `B' team of the Airport Fire Services, Hj Yusop B. Hj Ahmad, they were called by the air traffic controller (ATC) for stand-by duty at around 2.43pm.

Fire services personnel took their positions and a full emergency was declared at 3.03pm.

"Seven fire engines were on stand by.

Also present were fire engines from the Berakas Fire Station. The aircraft landed safely. Only one fire engine approached the aircraft shortly after landing," he said.
