Mega Concert Leaves Crowd Breathless KB

Bandar Seri Begawan - An entertaining performance by Malaysian comedian and actor Saiful Apek on Sunday evening left tens of thousands of people at Padang Bandaran Kuala Belait wanting more, especially when he invited more than a hundred children on stage to sing with him.

Saiful of popular comedy group Senario brought laughter to a live audience with his humour and song performances during a mega concert, "Gemerlapan 59", which featured local and foreign artistes.

Saiful, who recently starred in a hit movie, "Senario XX", brought two fans on stage to participate in a humorous act before calling over a hundred children, whom he referred to as "anak Brunei", to sing with him some of his current hits.

The comedian's biggest accomplishment in the entertainment industry thus far is being named the most popular artiste in the Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian in 2003.

Meanwhile, Malaysian singer-songwriter Yasin, was also present to enliven the concert. Renowned for his Arabic-influenced songs, he entertained the crowd with his hits.

The concert in the Belait District, hosted by emcees Dj Daffy and Dilla, featured 13 local artistes including winners . of Suara Bintang Keputeraan (SBK), Passport 2 Fame (P2F), KB Idol, and Hidden Stars as well as the winner of the Battle of the Bands announced on July 31.

Indonesian artistes Tina and Ulfa, popular for their participation in Dangdut Indonesia Contest and AF Indonesia, also belted out a few dangdut numbers such as "Tua-Tua Keladi", "Terajana", "Kopi Dangdut", "Pudar", "Bilang Saja", "Terlena", and "PilihanAku".

The free-of-charge concert kicked off with a dance act by swan dancers before Maya and Lazu Clanz performed a few popular English hits.

Later SBK winners Rafts, Siti and Maria got the crowd on their feet when they performed songs, "Lagu Resah", "Riwayat Cinta" and "Bisik Hati", respectively. They also performed in a group when they sang "Jangan Pisahkan".

The crowd went into frenzy when dancers from the Brunei Shell performed flamboyant moves entitled "Panasaran", choreographed by Azrin.

Recently discovered KB talents Aimee, Umi, Ulfa, Irwan and Ancun also showcased their singing skills on stage before dance performances by Eagle Dancer Pembela C.

Later, the crowd applauded to performances by P2F winners Ganz, Bombay and Zutf who sang "Hanya Memuji" together.

The audience was further entertained by KB Idol winner Ozy who sang "Pen]ara Kasih" while first runner-up Ayu sang "If I Ain't Got You". Bory also made a special appearance at the mega concert.

Other acts on Sunday evening include Lim Hai Long with his Hokkien song act, a dance presentation by AZ Dancer, and an unplugged performance by Battle of the Bands winner Pure Genesis.

The mega concert, held for the third time, was organised by the Belait District National Committee of His Majesty's 591" birthday celebrations. Its objective was to providing Belait people with an unforgettable evening of entertainment. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
