Princess To Grace Opening Ceremony

Begawan – HRH Princess 'Azeemah Ni'matul Bolkiah, patron of the
National Special Olympics of Brunei Darussalam, is expected to attend
the opening ceremony of the first Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Bocce
Competition to be held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on
August 12.
Chairperson of the Organising
Committee of the upcoming event, Hj Mahrub bin Hj Murni, disclosed
this during a press conference for the upcoming event yesterday.
Also present to answer questions from
the media were Hj Rushdi Hj Abd Latif from the Co-Curriculum
Department at the Ministry of Education and Awang Rosmadi from the
Community Development Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports.
According to Hj Mahrub, special
athletes from theAsiaPacific region will arrive in the country on
August 10 and they will be put up at the Sports Village in Berakas
together with the local participants.
All participants will also be
expected to go through a health and sports screening as well as final
grouping before the day of competition.
Over 200 volunteers from various
agencies as well as individuals will be helping out throughout the
event. They include 75 trained personnel as judges and umpires, he
added.
Malaysia will send 17 special
athletes from Sarawak, 14 from Perak, 17 from Selangor, 11 from SO
Beaufort, 13 from SO Sandakan and 17 from Labuan. Other participating
countries include the Philippines with 17 participants, Thailand with
10 participants and Bangladesh with 13 participants. --
