Bandar Seri Begawan – Baiduri Bank as one of the major sponsors for the Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Bocce Competition 2005 signed the sponsorship agreement with the organising committee of the upcoming event yesterday afternoon.

Signing on behalf of Baiduri Bank was its Deputy General Manager Operations, Andrew Young, who also spearheads the Baiduri Bank Charity Golf, an annual fundraising initiative undertaken by the bank to contribute towards local charities.

Baiduri Bank contributed B$20,290 towards the Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Bocce Competition 2005, providing meals for the special athletes' and working committee throughout the three-day event, as well as medals for winners.

"We are delighted to announce our sponsorship agreement with the National Special Olympics of Brunei. Its mission and objectives fit well into our corporate citizenship efforts.

"We hope that through this event and many other programmes organised by the National Special Olympics, individuals with special needs many benefit from participation in team sports," said Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank.

"The well-being of the local communities is important to us. Besides our support for the National Special Olympics, we have also been working closely with other government and nonprofit organisations including Pusat Ehsan, the Child Development Centre and Society for the Management of Autism-Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei.

"We are proud to be a part of local and national projects that are improving the community and positively impacting people's lives," said Mr Imhof. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
