Filipino Slapped With Fine For Liquor Sale

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 59-year-old Filipino was fined $500 or in default one month's jail after pleading guilty to selling a bottle of liquor which was declared at the Customs for personal consumption only.

Evanglena Calulut Tamondong paid the fine yesterday.

Customs Prosecuting Officer Pg Abdullah Pg Hj Matahir told the Magistrate's Court in Bandar that the defendant was successfully apprehended i by Customs Preventive officers who had beep observing her.

Acting on a tip-off, the personnel observed the defendant's residence at Kg Delima Satu on August 4, this year.

The officers saw a male who was suspected of buying liquor that nightt and managed to detain him while he was holding a bottle of Bacardi in a black plastic bag.

The man admitted to having bought the liquor from the defendant for $23.
