Coca-Cola Basketball Tournament

Bandar Seri Begawan - The much-awaited Coca-Cola Basketball Challenge Trophy Tournament will start as scheduled from Aug 13-19 at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex.

This was confirmed during the handing over of the challenge trophy by the main sponsor to the president of the Brunei Basketball Association, Goh Kim Tian at a simple ceremony in Lambak Kanan Industrial Area yesterday.

Representing the sponsor Cola-Coca was Tuan Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Metasim, the Managing Partner of Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia, the official distributor for the brand in Brunei Darussalam.

The tournament will have the top eight teams who qualified from the ongoing Sultan's Birthday Cup Basketball Tournament including Team Malar Setia Coca-Cola Panthers, a team sponsored by Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia and F&N Coca-Cola (Brunei) Sdn Bhd.

The eight teams are A Kim Eng, Maya Silk D, Coca-Cola Panthers, Mum's Bakery, Linktech Sdn Bhd, Teo & Sons Workshop, ABMS Sdn Bhd and Halim Tour & Travel SIB.

According to Tuan Haj i Abdul Rahman: "We are happy the tournament will now start immediately after the completion of the Sultan's Birthday Cup. We are happy to play a role in developing basketball as a mainstream sports in the Sultanate", and in jest said: "We also hope our team win both the trophies".

Goh thanked the sponsor and expressed his satisfaction that the tournament will proceed smoothly once again this year. Also present at the ceremony was David Yau, the Operations Manager of F&N CocaCola (Brunei) Sdn Bhd. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
