UBD Holds Language Expedition To Sabah

Bandar Seri Begawan - A group of 44 undergraduates of University Of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) accompanied by two lecturers from the Malay Language and Linguistics Department attended a Language Expedition to Sabah from July 23 till 28.

The expedition was organised by Kelab Pendeta Bahasa, of the Malay Language and Linguistics Department as one of the yearly activities for its members. This expedition coincided with the Linguistics Methodology Research Course, which amongst others requires undergraduates to carry out practical field works.

Various experiences were obtained from this expedition such as staying overnight at the Bavong Gazo Longhouse in Kudat, the Tea Sbah Resort Long House in Kota Belud and the Tambunan Village Resort Centre.

Besides interviewing informants and conducting an overview on their speech sound systems, the undergraduates also had the opportunity to learn the customs and traditions of the local communities. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
