Sheraton Utama Takes On UNICEF
Challenge Again
By Huraizah Ahmad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - After successfully organising the UNICEF Charity Run
2004 that was held in conjunction with UNICEF Check Out for Children
Challenge 2004, Sheraton Utama is once again taking on the challenge
with a new campaign that was recently launched by Starwood Hotel &
Resorts.
The UNICEF Check Out for Children
Challenge 2005 is a campaign that is aimed at raising a collective
amount of US$50,000 from all Starwood hotels within the Asia Pacific
region.
The campaign kick started on August 1
this year and will run until September 30.
Each hotel under Starwood Hotel &
Resorts worldwide are given a challenge to help raise funds to be
channelled to UNICEF with the theme "The Right to Play".
This theme revolves around every
child's right to play, but yet due to diseases, war and poverty, this
right has been denied to millions of children all over the world.
Each year, nearly 11 million children
die, mostly from preventable causes, before reaching their fifth
birthday.
Thus, this year's challenge theme
aims to celebrate every child's "Right to Play" whilst raising money
for immunisation programmes which will help them to survive and
thrive.
Taking on this challenge, Sheraton
Utama Hotel has formed a Challenge Team, headed by Sheraton Utama's
own UNICEF Ambassador, Ms Jenny Jee.
The team will be organising
charitable events to raise much-needed funds that will go towards
UNICEF.
In order to ensure the success of the
events, and more importantly maximise the funds that will be
channelled to UNICEF, Sheraton Utama is inviting interested companies
and individuals to support and sponsor the events being held for the
challenge.
Last year's successful challenge in
raising close to $11,000 for UNICEF was able to help the initiative
taken by the Indonesian government to immunise their children against
polio.
General Manager of Sheraton Utama,
Datin Hajah Zainah Bujang, together with Jenny Jee were on hand to
assist and witness UNICEF's effort during the polio campaign.
"It is indeed an eye opener to visit
the rural areas in Indonesia where the polio campaign was carried out.
Moreover, to have witnessed UNICEF putting the funds from the
challenge to good use, we are extremely looking forward to this year's
challenge and will try our best to raise even more fund than we did
last year," said Datin Haj ah Zainah. --
