Two Brunei swimmers and their coach
have left for Bangkok yesterday for the Asian Swimming Talent
Identification Project which starts from Aug 5-22.
Mohd
Bahrain Shah Bahrom Shem, one of the best swimmers in his age group,
won two bronze medals at the 2005 Arafura Games in Darwin, in the 50m
and 100m backstroke events. Felicia Lee Li Ern had shown good
performance at the 29th SEA Age-Group Swimming Championship breaking
two national records in the 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle events.
The duo were accompanied by national
coach Hj Mohd Yussof bin Hj Md Nor for the two-week stint in Bangkok.
The aims of the project are to
prepare the young swimmers for the 4th AASF Age Group Championship,
educate the national swimming coaches and to identify young, promising
swimmers that may become part of the country's 2012 Olympic Team.
The project is organised and funded
by the Olympic Council of Asia, Olympic Solidarity and FINA.
Hj
Mohd Yussof said it would be a good exposure for the two young
swimmers, both 12 years old, to be involved in the project and learn
more from the two coaches provided by the United States Swimming
Federation and Australian Swimming Federation.
