Overstaying Foreigner Gets Jail Term, Caning

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 37-year-old Bangladeshi who remained in the country unlawfully for more than three years was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment and three strokes of the cane by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Solaiman Khan Faijuddin Khan pleaded guilty to commiting the offence after the expiry of his employment pass since September 6, 2001.

The Immigration Prosecuting Officer said the defendant was arrested by Immigration Officers from Enforcement Division two days ago at a vegetable farm in Kampong Bengkurong after he failed to produce his passport. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
