Centrepoint Hotel today
By Helena M Mahathir
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Study In Australia exhibition is set to unfold on
the seventh floor of the Centrepoint Hotel today.
The exhibition - organised by James
Hon Marketing and Management - will see the participation of 12
significant Australian institutions.
Students who have just completed
their A' Levels, IBs or IGCSEs are encouraged to attend the event.
Postgraduate enquiries are also open to degree and diploma holders
considering furthering their studies.
Interested parties will have the
opportunity to enquire on the wide range of pre-university, diploma,
undergraduate and postgraduate courses available. The areas of study
include Business, Engineering, Medicine, Bio & Physical, Sciences,
Education and Humanities.
La Trobe University in Bundoora
Melbourne is one of the 12 participants at the expo. A research
conducted recently showed La Trobe ranking in the No 10 spot among
other universities in Australia.
Meanwhile, Macquarie University of
Sydney, EconomicsLecturer Joseph Macri and Professor Dipendra Sinha
ranked the La Trobe University Economics Department as the No 2 in
Melbourne, thereby acquiring an overall ranking of No 6.
The two-and-a-half-year study ranked
32 departments teaching Economics in Australia and New Zealand, and is
also the first study to make a trans-Tasman comparison in economics.
The Macquarie team believes that
rankings could be used by students `as a proxy for university
quality,' by academics `to identify the most suitable environment for
employment and research' and by government `in their quest to provide
valuable research funds to the most productive institutions.'
