Belait Veterans Participate In
Classical Singing Competition

Kuala Belait -
Awg Hj Mossabli and Dyg Rosidah Gapor yesterday emerged as
winners in the duet category of Tan Sri P.Ramlee and Saloma Malay
Classical Song Competition held at Tudong Saji, Kuala Belait in
conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam's 59th birthday celebration in the Belait District.
Meanwhile, the first prize in for the
male category went to Awg Ali Rahman while the winner in the female
category was Dyg Latifah bte Morni.
The competition which was divided
into three categories, male and female solo as well as duet, was open
to veterans aged over 40 years for men and over 38 years for women.
Ten male and female singers and eight
couples had the opportunity to present their talents in singing and
impersonating the Malay legendary singers Tan Sri P. Ramlee and Saloma.
Participants were judged based on
their vocal, presentation, attire and impersonation and appearance to
the legendary singers.
On hand to present the prizes and
attending as the guest of honour was Mr Chai Yum Fatt, who is also the
sponsor and second chairman of the organising committee of the event.
The competition was organised for the
third time by MPK Sungai TerabanArts and Cultural Body and PESTA.
Apart from celebrating the monarch's
birthday, the event was also aimed at establishing closer ties between
the organising committees and participants. --
