Jakim Pledges To Assist Brunei
Companies In Global Halal Certification
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Malaysian Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM)
has pledged to assist any local institutions in Brunei Darussalam who
need their help to obtain conformation to the international halal
certification.
The assurance was made by the
Director of JAKIM Che Hassan Pahmi Hj Che Mat to the entrepreneurs
from the Sultanate who made a courtesy call to the office of JAKIM in
Putrajaya on July 29.
The trade delegation of Sapco (B) Sdn
Bhd from Brunei Darussalam was led by its chairman Pg Shahminan Pg Hj
Ismail and Managing Director Hj Abd Kahar Hj Wahab.
Pg Shahminan said JAKIM, the issuer
of Malaysian Standard 1500: 2004 Makanan Halal (MS1500), is currently
working towards the international adoption of the MS 1500 as the halal
standard of the world.
"It would enable food producers of
member countries of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to
manufacture halal products that conform to world standards and entry
into world markets.
It would also facilitate and promote
OIC trade. "With further consultations and deliberations, MS 1500
could well become the common halal standard for OIC member nations,"
he added.
The delegation as told by JAKIM said
the halal standard MS 1500-2004, which was presented to OIC member
countries a month ago, is the first world class halal standard to be
established anywhere in the world.
"We are happy to collaborate and
share our knowledge and experience in the halal field, particularly in
the field of standards," Che Hassan told the Brunei visitors.
Che
Hassan added that JAKIM has recognised 44 Islamic bodies in 22
countries throughout the world whose functions are verifying and
issuing halal certification to abattoirs in their respective nations.
