By Huraizah Ahmad

Bandar Seri Begawan - Baiduri Bank Berhad recently contributed $20,290 to the Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Bocce Competition 2005 at the closing event of the Special Olympics Torch Run.

HRH Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah, as a patron of the Brunei Darussalam Special Olympics, consented to receive the contribution on behalf of the committee from Senior Deputy General Manager of Baiduri Bank Philippe Petitier.

The contribution - part of ongoing initiatives by Baiduri Bank to support special individuals - will assist the committee in providing meal for athletes and working committee members throughout the period of the event as well as in funding for the medals for the winners, according to the bank.

Baiduri Bank has been an active contributor towards educational programmes, projects and events organised by welfare bodies such as Pusat Ehsan, Child Development Centre and Society for the Management ofAutism-Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei.

The bank's annual event, Baiduri Bank Charity Golf Tournament, also provides a platform for golfing enthusiasts while raising funds for charity organisations.

The Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Bocce Competition 2005 will be held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium August 12-14.

The sporting event is expected to attract over 150 special athletes from Bangladesh, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
