Fruitful End To Information,
Broadcasting Meet

Begawan - The fourth Joint Technical Committee Meeting under
the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the
Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on cooperation in the fields of
information and broadcasting came to an end yesterday.
During the closing ceremony at the
Centrepoint Hotel, Gadong yesterday, Permanent Secretary at the Prime
Minister's Office Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Hamid bin Pengiran
Hj Mohd Yassin said, "Over the four years, our cooperation has
strengthened significantly. We have continued to explore new
opportunities in the fields of information and broadcasting."
Pengiran
Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Hamid was the head of Brunei delegation while
Permanent Secretary Dr Rongphol Charoenphandhu of the Office of the
Prime Minister of Thailand headed the 14-member Thai delegation.
He added that the deliberations made
during the meeting by senior officials were very constructive, and
most importantly, it was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
He also said that the two parties
have agreed to convene two production coordinating meetings in
broadcasting before embarking on major projects such as Alai Krathong
and Pesta Pa Plern, adding that such moves will enable relevant
agencies to review, evaluate and plan the projects effectively, and
make necessary changes to improve the quality of the programmes.
They also agreed to look into the
possibility of merging RTB's Rampai Pagi and TVT 11's Morning Show on
special occasions.
Meanwhile, he said, in the field of
information, Brunei appreciated the help from Thai Public Relations
Department by allowing three senior officers from Brunei's Information
Department to visit the National Identity Office, Prime Minister's
Office of Thailand.
"We are looking forward to officers
from the National Identity Office and Public Relations Department of
Thailand to visit Brunei in 2006," the permanent secretary added.
Both parties also agreed to a photo
exhibition exchange, in conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday
and the 60th anniversary of the King of Thailand's accession to the
throne in 2006.
This, he said, will strengthen the
bilateral relations. "I am very pleased to note the strong interest
from both parties to work closely together in the field of digital
broadcasting," he said.
Pengiran
Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Hamid said the third Asean Digital Broadcasting
Meeting will be held on August 29, 2005 in Brunei, adding "we would
like to extend our appreciation to Thailand for agreeing to host the
next Asean Digital Broadcasting Meeting the following year." --
